|Welcome Message From The Secretary-General Of The APOCP|
On behalf of the members of the APOCP, I would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Cheng-Har Yip, President of the APOCP and the local organizing committee members of the 6th APOCP General Assembly Conference for their tremendous effort in preparing the conference.
The APOCP, a non-political, non-profit organization, was founded 11 years ago in 2000 to promote cancer prevention and also collaborative studies in the Asian Pacific regions. The aims of the organization are to provide opportunities to expert researchers to exchange mutual information for cancer prevention, to promote collaborative studies on cancer epidemiology and prevention, and to facilitate the implementation of active programs for cancer prevention.
About half of cancer patients and cancer deaths occur in Asia, and the cancer burden in Asia is estimated to be continuously increasing. Within Asian countries, however, there is wide variation in cancer frequencies, cancer types, and survivorship. Asia represents more than 60% of the world population, but the present cancer registry coverage is a minimal of 36% of the total population.
The main theme of this GA conference, Clinical Epidemiology and Practical Interventions: The Future of Cancer Control in the Asia-Pacific Region”, is therefore timely and motivated in the Asian-Pacific Region where cancer incidence has rapidly increased in recent years.
